Corp Goth

Hey blogspot world, Subtly Stylish is finally back with proper content posts! While this post isn't exactly how all of the new subtly stylish posts will be going, it's a good idea of the future of the blog, besides its been ages, a post is necessary at this point!

Now, there are many a misconception about the goth subculture, who they are, what they stand for, how they present themselves... And while I'll go into more detail about that in a later post, I thought that corporate goth or corp goth would be an ideal place to start with undoing common misconceptions. Goths aren't angry highschoolers who listen to Marilyn Manson while they write strongly worded emails to people who've wronged them. Goths are elegant, edgy, and have a history nearly as long and complicated as that of punk.

Enter the Corp Goth, not to be confused with Corpse Goth, and entirely different strain. Corp Goths are generally Trad Goths that grew up and needed to make it in the workplace but still wanted to keep up their spooky street cred. Much unlike Traditional Goths however, Corp Goths tend toward a more conservative style. Gone are the rips and fishnets of the past, and welcome are slim fitted well tailored suits, trench coats, pencil skirts and even long tiered drop waist dresses, often all falling in the black color spectrum. Now where Corp Goth distinguishes itself from other workplace looks is in the accessories. Common dark touches include, blood red ties, braces and even pocket squares for the classiest of the Corp Goths. Women can often be seen in extravagant jewelry often touching upon classic staples of the æsthetic such as ankhs, bats, coffins, and even on rarer occasion, nods toward fetish attire such as handcuffs. Makeup and hair are also an important concern of the Corp Goth, dark colors and dramatic features often help tie together a look. Another common give away that someone may be a Corp Goth is the sexualization of common workplace attire, often equating to a certain macabre allure that only a Goth could manage.

While Corp Goth doesn't have a required dress code, it's actually one of the more structured Goth looks as it requires the wearer to look presentable and suitable for a work place. That said, it's often difficult to find style icons for the Corp Goth look, as there aren't really any bands that are considered "Corp Goth" bands. No Siouxie Siouxs or Jonny Sluts for this look. Just æsthetic integrity and creativity.
